3.5.11  Conformal Field Theory


The existence of a much stronger symmetry for the scaling limit of two-dimensional critical systems was suggested by Belavin, Polyakov and Zamolodchikov in 1984, which eventually led to the development of conformal field theory, a special case of Quantum Field Theory, which is presently utilized in different areas of particle physics and condensed matter physics. Most theories in standard particle physics are formulated as relativistic quantum field theories, such as QED, QCD, and the Standard Model.
