When a completed record becomes a shared observation

A private record and a publicly accessible fact are not the same information task. Spectrum broadcast structures provide a precise way to describe multiple observers reading a common classical label. The comparison helps SMM/DTT distinguish completion, retained memory and shared observation without requiring consciousness to collapse a wave function.

01From one receiver to several

A completion can give one receiver a stable outcome. A shared observation additionally requires that other receivers can access compatible information through specified interactions. The mere existence of a common source does not guarantee that different observers’ local records agree or that they can read them without disturbing the relevant variable.

This gives the SMM/DTT account of an observable world a concrete task: explain how completed information becomes redundantly accessible. The issue concerns physical records before it concerns the phenomenology of awareness. An instrument can store a readable bit whether or not a person is currently examining it. [1]

02A simple broadcast state

Consider a system label i and several environment fragments. A spectrum broadcast form is a classical mixture over i, with each fragment carrying an i-dependent state whose supports are distinguishable for different labels. Under the stated independence and nondisturbance assumptions, observers can access the same classical information by measuring separate fragments.

This research supplies a mathematical criterion for a form of objectivity. It is not a claim that every quantum state has become classical, or that subjective experience has been explained by an entropy formula. Its relevance here is the structure of physical access: many receivers obtain a compatible label without each needing to control the entire source. [2]

ρSE₁…Eₙ = Σᵢ pᵢ |i⟩⟨i| ⊗ ρᵢE₁ ⊗ … ⊗ ρᵢEₙ For i ≠ j, the fragment states have orthogonal supports.

An ideal broadcast structure under the relevant operational assumptions; approximate structures require error bounds.

03A two-observer example

Take three qubits in the mixed state p|000⟩⟨000|+(1−p)|111⟩⟨111|. The first is the system label and the other two are records for separate observers. Each observer measuring its own qubit in the computational basis obtains the same label as the system, with probabilities p and 1−p.

These local readouts leave the displayed mixed state unchanged when outcomes are averaged. The state is separable: agreement does not require entanglement in this example. A coherent GHZ state can have the same computational-basis correlations while retaining global coherence accessible to a different measurement. Matching one set of correlations therefore does not identify the full physical state.

ρ = p|000⟩⟨000| + (1−p)|111⟩⟨111| P(E₁=E₂=S)=1 Local basis readout leaves the averaged ρ unchanged.

04Why this is not arbitrary quantum cloning

Only a selected distinguishable classical label is being broadcast. The construction does not copy an unknown arbitrary pure quantum state. The set of readable observables is restricted, and complementary phase information can remain unavailable to the local fragments.

For a source theory this restriction is physically important. Outer completion may select a stable record algebra while inner processes retain distinctions that the public record does not reveal. The model must specify whether those hidden distinctions affect future observations and whether the reduced record is a sufficient predictive state. Shared access and complete knowledge are different requirements. [2]

05The relation to psychical experience

An observer’s lived present involves memory, attention and a mode of experience. The broadcast calculation addresses none of those phenomenological details directly. It concerns how separate physical systems can carry mutually compatible records. A metaphysical or psychical account may interpret the meaning of their shared world, but the interpretation needs an explicit bridge if it claims new measurable dynamics.

This separation gives both sides room to be substantive. The physical programme can explain agreement among records without postulating consciousness-driven collapse. The philosophical programme can ask why a physical record is experienced at all, or how many subjects relate to a common foundation, without being reduced to the statement that copies exist.

06Agreement between two receivers does not settle every question

For a binary classical record, suppose two observers each have an error probability ε relative to the same source label, with errors independent conditional on that label. Their probability of disagreement is 2ε(1−ε). This quantity approaches zero as the records become reliable and reaches one half for completely random binary guesses. It gives an operational way to quantify agreement without appealing to the observers’ private experiences.

A source model can aim to derive the recording errors, their correlations and the conditions under which the retained label remains stable. If errors are correlated, the displayed independence formula no longer applies and the joint recording channel must be analyzed directly. This example clarifies what objective record formation can contribute to a wider SMM/DTT account: it explains public consistency of observations under stated mechanisms. Whether and how those records are accompanied by experience remains a further philosophical or scientific question requiring its own bridge, rather than following from agreement alone.

07A constructive target for outer completion

A SMM/DTT model could derive approximate broadcast records from a single source interaction and quantify their readability, redundancy and disturbance. It should also account for the memory and environmental degrees of freedom that carry the copies. A finite isolated source cannot create unlimited independent records without a corresponding capacity assumption.

That result would connect the generative and observational roles through a real information task. It would remain distinct from a derivation of consciousness or a proof of every classical feature of spacetime. The comparison’s positive contribution is a precise criterion for when a completed record can count as shared physical evidence. [1]
