Correlations across a sequence of measurements can reveal memory that a single final state conceals. This comparison with Bohmian mechanics examines what DTT’s inner generation adds to that process, calculates a two-time qubit correlation, and distinguishes a real source-memory mechanism from merely introducing another time label.
Temporal entanglement concerns correlations among events associated with different times. Several inequivalent mathematical objects carry that name: entangled histories, quantum channels represented as bipartite operators, and correlations in sequences of measurements. A pair of time labels does not automatically define two independently measurable subsystems. Measuring the first event can change the later state, so a temporal correlation must include the intervention that produced it.
For SMM/DTT, the important possibility is that one source retains phase information while it produces a succession of records. Spatially separated detections and temporally separated interventions can then be studied with an explicit memory-bearing process. This provides a constructive programme: derive the multi-event probabilities from one source–memory evolution, and identify which correlations require coherent memory rather than a classical hidden register. It does not follow merely from the common source that every pair of events is entangled. [3] [4]
The Single Monad Model begins with one nonspatial generative source. The Duality of Time Theory distinguishes the source’s inner production from the outer order in which completed records become accessible. Its six inner levels are nested functional roles of one process: a higher role organizes lower-level work. The seventh is the completion or observation interface. They are neither six independent clocks nor six additional time coordinates.
This distinction supplies a useful research question: which features of an observed world can follow from the way a source produces, retains and releases information? A concrete answer needs a state space, an autonomous update, retained memory and a rule connecting completion to an accessible measurement. In the constructions discussed here, those mathematical ingredients are stated explicitly. A successful finite example establishes what its specified mechanism can do; further arguments connect it to physical particles, spacetime or universal laws. [1]
Bohmian mechanics supplements a wavefunction with an actual configuration, ordinarily particle positions. The Schrödinger equation guides the wavefunction, and a velocity law guides the configuration. When configurations follow the quantum-equilibrium distribution, the theory reproduces the usual quantum statistics in its applicable domain. Apparatus outcomes are ultimately configurations too, so measurement is treated as a physical interaction rather than a separate primitive collapse.
This is an instructive comparison for SMM because it provides an explicit account of definite observed events while retaining an additional, nonclassical level of description. But a Bohmian particle follows a trajectory in a configuration space whose geometry is supplied. The Single Monad proposal instead seeks to explain how spatial and particle records arise at all. The challenge is therefore not to rename a guiding wave as inner time. It is to show what variables replace the configuration, how records obey the equilibrium statistics, and whether the replacement adds an observable consequence. [2]
In Bohmian mechanics an actual configuration at one time evolves to another under a guiding wave. Temporal correlations are calculated from that trajectory together with the apparatus interactions, and quantum equilibrium gives the familiar observed statistics. The trajectory is not itself an extra time coordinate. DTT’s sequence of source-generated records might imitate those observed trajectories, but the private order in which source addresses are visited need not coincide with a particle’s observable motion.
This distinction matters whenever an inner update makes a large jump in its spatial readout. Bohmian guidance assigns a physical velocity under an explicit law; an arbitrary source scan assigns only an order of computation. A credible correspondence requires a separate proof that record-to-record transitions have the appropriate dynamics and correlations. The advantage of the Bohmian comparison is its demand for an actual variable carrying the history, rather than a verbal appeal to continuity. DTT could offer a deeper origin for that variable and its geometry, while Bohmian quantum equilibrium remains a concrete benchmark for its probability law. [2] [3] [4]
Take a qubit initially in the maximally mixed state and measure Z projectively, with outcomes a=±1. Rotate it through U=exp(−iθX/2), then measure Z again with outcome b. The first outcome has probability one half. Conditional on it, the second agrees with probability cos²(θ/2), so the joint distribution is p(a,b)=[1+ab cosθ]/4. Multiplication by ab and summation gives the temporal correlation C=cosθ.
At θ=π/3 the agreement probability is 3/4 and C=1/2. Nothing in this calculation requires two physical time axes. The intermediate state and the first measurement account for the result. A DTT model that claims extra temporal structure therefore needs a difference in a sequence with the same preparations, rotations and registered outcomes. A causal-break operation, which replaces the system state while leaving hidden memory alone, is particularly informative: surviving dependence on the earlier intervention then diagnoses memory beyond the newly prepared qubit. [3] [4]
The qubit example is dimensionless; θ is a controlled rotation angle and both outcomes are ±1.
The resulting distinction is between an ordering parameter and an experimentally accessible temporal process. Inner work can have a complicated organization even when every observable sequence is represented by a conventional process tensor. It becomes physically distinguishable when two implementations with the same final single-time state yield different later responses because they retain different memory. This directs the comparison toward intervention-dependent records rather than pictures of particles communicating through an extra clock. [3] [4]
THE SAME QUESTION, DIFFERENT STARTING POINTS
| Question | SMM/DTT | Bohmian mechanics |
|---|---|---|
| Starting structure | One nonspatial source, retained memory and six nested inner functions with an outer completion interface. | Wavefunction plus actual configurations with a guiding law. |
| Observable connection | The source update and readout must generate the measured records and their calibrated relations. | A pointer configuration identifies the observed outcome. |
| Temporal entanglement | This distinction matters whenever an inner update makes a large jump in its spatial readout. | In Bohmian mechanics an actual configuration at one time evolves to another under a guiding wave. |
| Status of the claim | A constructive research programme; a specified finite model establishes only its stated conditional results. | Quantum-equilibrium dynamics reproduces the standard statistics in its applicable domain. |
