A hidden source contribution must explain more than missing mass in one orbit. Comparing DTT with unimodular gravity, this article calculates an illustrative enclosed dynamical mass, separates clustered matter from a smooth vacuum component, and identifies the joint lensing and cosmological requirements for a source-based account of effective geometry.
Dark matter is inferred through a combination of gravitational phenomena, including dynamics, lensing and cosmological structure. Within ΛCDM it is represented by a largely pressureless component with specified perturbation behaviour. A change in geometry or gravity can imitate some of those effects, but a successful alternative must reproduce several observables with one consistent rule.
SMM/DTT can explore whether retained temporal structure produces effective gravitational sources or modifies the relation between matter and geometry. That is a possible research direction, not a consequence of calling the vacuum generative. In particular, a homogeneous vacuum component with w=−1 does not automatically behave like clustered cold matter. The distinction between an extra source and a modified response matters because they can predict different lensing, growth and environmental dependencies. [3] [4]
The Single Monad Model begins with one nonspatial generative source. The Duality of Time Theory distinguishes the source’s inner production from the outer order in which completed records become accessible. Its six inner levels are nested functional roles of one process: a higher role organizes lower-level work. The seventh is the completion or observation interface. They are neither six independent clocks nor six additional time coordinates.
This distinction supplies a useful research question: which features of an observed world can follow from the way a source produces, retains and releases information? A concrete answer needs a state space, an autonomous update, retained memory and a rule connecting completion to an accessible measurement. In the constructions discussed here, those mathematical ingredients are stated explicitly. A successful finite example establishes what its specified mechanism can do; further arguments connect it to physical particles, spacetime or universal laws. [1]
Unimodular formulations reorganize the gravitational equations so that the cosmological constant can arise as an integration constant rather than as a conventional fixed coupling in the action. In a common classical presentation, the metric equation is trace-free. With covariant conservation of matter, integration restores an Einstein equation with a constant term. Different covariant and constrained formulations can differ in their quantization and treatment of global variables.
This is relevant to SMM/DTT because a completion or normalized-response rule may remove sensitivity to an additive offset in a particular observable. But mathematical insensitivity to a constant and prediction of the constant’s measured value are different results. Unimodular gravity does not automatically select that value or explain every radiative contribution. A DTT link would need a dynamical reason that its generated geometry obeys the trace-free equation or its covariant equivalent, together with a rule fixing the global integration data. Calling the source vacuum offset unobservable in a local response is insufficient to establish its gravitational absence. [2]
Unimodular gravity does not automatically remove the need for clustered dark matter, because its usual classical solutions with conserved sources closely reproduce Einstein dynamics with an integration constant. Changing the status of Λ addresses a different term in the equations from the inhomogeneous matter distribution inferred from galactic and cosmological observations. DTT should keep these two explanatory targets distinct.
The source programme could add matter-like degrees of freedom or modify the gravitational response through an additional mechanism, but neither follows just from trace-free field equations. The orbital benchmark then tests the new mechanism’s actual weak-field limit. If a source memory is claimed to act as mass, it must produce the correct radial dependence and lensing under one parameter choice. If the integration constant changes, it still generally behaves like a smooth cosmological term rather than a halo. The comparison’s positive lesson is architectural clarity: vacuum-offset control and matter generation may both arise from one source, but the theory must show the distinct dynamical channels through which they appear. Combining their names does not combine their physical effects. [2] [3] [4]
For a circular orbit in a Newtonian, approximately spherical gravitational field, v²=GM(<r)/r. Use an illustrative speed of 200 kilometres per second at radius 10 kiloparsecs. Converting r to 3.086×10²⁰ metres gives M≈1.85×10⁴¹ kilograms, or about 9.3×10¹⁰ solar masses. This is the enclosed dynamical mass demanded by those inputs within the assumed law.
The calculation does not determine how much of that mass is dark; that requires an independent inventory of luminous and other ordinary matter. A modified-gravity model can change the inference, but must then calculate light deflection and the surrounding systems under the same parameters. A DTT explanation that assigns an effective mass to source memory needs a stress-energy or metric rule that delivers these independent effects. Fitting the orbit alone leaves a degeneracy between the source distribution and the law of gravity. The usefulness of the benchmark is that it identifies the measurable quantity and the assumption responsible for the inference. [3] [4]
Newtonian circular motion and spherical symmetry are assumed. The example is not a claim about a particular observed galaxy.
The strongest source-based proposal would tie any apparent missing mass to independently measurable properties of retained records or geometry, with no separate adjustment for each system. Cosmological perturbations then supply an additional test: the same degrees of freedom must seed or support structure in the early universe. This cross-scale requirement distinguishes an explanatory alternative from a flexible re-description of individual gravitational observations. [3] [4]
THE SAME QUESTION, DIFFERENT STARTING POINTS
| Question | SMM/DTT | unimodular gravity |
|---|---|---|
| Starting structure | One nonspatial source, retained memory and six nested inner functions with an outer completion interface. | Trace-free or covariant constrained gravitational formulation. |
| Observable connection | The source update and readout must generate the measured records and their calibrated relations. | Local metric equations plus global integration data. |
| Dark matter and effective geometry | The source programme could add matter-like degrees of freedom or modify the gravitational response through an additional mechanism, but neither follows just from trace-free field equations. | Unimodular gravity does not automatically remove the need for clustered dark matter, because its usual classical solutions with conserved sources closely reproduce Einstein dynamics with an integration constant. |
| Status of the claim | A constructive research programme; a specified finite model establishes only its stated conditional results. | A family of formulations; local offset cancellation does not select the constant. |
