Vacuum and dark energy: what a dynamical source must supply

A dynamical vacuum model needs energy, pressure and a conserved evolution law. This comparison develops the scalar-field benchmark, shows exactly when it accelerates the universe, and asks whether DTT’s source organization can determine those quantities together rather than supply an adjustable explanation for any measured expansion history.

01An evolving component is a physical model

Quintessence represents dark energy by a dynamical scalar field. Its potential and initial state determine how its energy and pressure change with cosmological time. This is a concrete comparator for DTT because both can describe a world whose effective vacuum organization changes, but only the specified equations determine the expansion.

The source programme’s distinctive ambition is to derive that effective field or replace it with a more fundamental mechanism of retention and completion. If it merely chooses a time-dependent density to match observations, it has a phenomenological fit. A stronger model relates the density, pressure, perturbations and source clock through one dynamical law. [2]

02The source and its two temporal roles

The Single Monad Model begins with one nonspatial generative source. The Duality of Time Theory distinguishes the source’s inner production from the outer order in which completed records become accessible. Its six inner levels are nested functional roles of one process: a higher role organizes lower-level work. The seventh is the completion or observation interface. They are neither six independent clocks nor six additional time coordinates.

This distinction supplies a useful research question: which features of an observed world can follow from the way a source produces, retains and releases information? A concrete answer needs a state space, an autonomous update, retained memory and a rule connecting completion to an accessible measurement. In the constructions discussed here, those mathematical ingredients are stated explicitly. A successful finite example establishes what its specified mechanism can do; further arguments connect it to physical particles, spacetime or universal laws. [1]

Three distinct questions about the vacuum
Three distinct questions about the vacuum. A quantum state, its measurable correlations, and its gravitational stress are different objects. A proposed generative source needs an explicit map to each. View full size ↗

03Worked scalar-field benchmark

In natural units, a canonical homogeneous scalar has kinetic energy K=φ̇²/2, energy density u=K+V and pressure p=K−V. Therefore w=(K−V)/(K+V). If K=0.05V with positive V, then w=−0.95/1.05≈−0.9048. This is vacuum-like negative pressure without being exactly a cosmological constant.

For a scalar-dominated universe, acceleration requires u+3p=4K−2V<0, or K<V/2. The same field obeys φ̈+3Hφ̇+V′=0, and its energy conservation follows from that equation. A DTT source that claims a corresponding effective scalar must reproduce both the stress and the evolution, using the same physical time. Selecting w independently of the source trajectory would omit the very relation that makes quintessence a mechanism. [2] [3]

u=K+V; p=K−V; w=(K−V)/(K+V); acceleration when K<V/2

Canonical scalar, positive total energy and natural units c=ℏ=1. Numerical kinetic-to-potential ratio is illustrative.

04A useful restriction on what the model can do

For a canonical scalar with nonnegative kinetic energy and positive total density, u+p=2K≥0, so w≥−1. A smooth crossing into w<−1 is therefore not produced by this simplest model alone. It requires different degrees of freedom, interactions, modified gravity or another well-defined extension whose stability must be assessed.

This matters when DTT is compared with evolving-dark-energy fits. A phenomenological curve can pass through w=−1 without specifying any microscopic implementation. Interpreting that curve as evidence for source completion would be premature. The source action has to determine which part of the parameter space it can realize and what perturbative response accompanies it. A model that excludes some fitted histories is more informative than one that can rename any curve as temporal generation. [2] [5]

05How nested generation could enter

A source-memory variable might acquire an effective slow mode after faster inner degrees of freedom are eliminated. That is a plausible route to a scalar-like order parameter, and the nested organization provides a natural place to investigate separated response times. But the number of inner roles does not fix a potential, kinetic sign or coupling to the metric.

The constructive task is to derive an effective action or an equivalent conserved set of equations from a specified source update. It should explain why the slow variable survives completion, what physical clock measures its change and why ordinary matter couples consistently. If these relations follow from one symmetry or conserved quantity, the source model would remove independent assumptions. If they are assigned one by one, the construction remains a useful effective model with additional inputs. [4] [2]

06Comparison with the observed expansion

The background expansion integrates the equation of state over time, so different microscopic models can produce similar distance curves. Growth of structure and the field’s perturbations add independent constraints. A source-derived sound speed, clustering law or coupling would therefore be especially valuable.

The dated DESI DR2 study provides one concrete target, with evidence depending on the datasets and phenomenological parameterization used. It does not identify a unique field potential or a DTT mechanism. The strongest source result would fix an allowed family before fitting, recover the constant-vacuum limit when appropriate and make an additional linked prediction. This is how the comparison can advance the programme from a broad idea of a changing vacuum to a constrained dynamical cosmology. [5] [6]

THE SAME QUESTION, DIFFERENT STARTING POINTS

The comparison at a glance

QuestionSMM/DTTDynamical quintessence
Equation of stateA DTT dark-energy model must derive pressure and energy from the same source dynamics.Canonical quintessence gives w=(K−V)/(K+V).
Allowed behaviourA source action should identify the histories it excludes as well as those it permits.A canonical positive-kinetic scalar with positive density has w≥−1.
Observational linkOne parameter set must predict both expansion and perturbations.Distance fits alone do not uniquely determine a scalar potential.
