Removing a common energy offset from normalized probabilities does not yet determine its gravitational effect. Comparing DTT with unimodular gravity, this article derives the effective cosmological-constant combination, identifies the finite parameter that remains free, and shows what a source mechanism would need to fix for a stable physical explanation.
The cosmological constant enters the gravitational field equation as a term proportional to the metric. A Lorentz-invariant vacuum stress has the same tensor form, so observations constrain an effective combination rather than separately revealing every bare contribution. The theoretical problem is to explain a small, stable effective value despite the available microscopic scales and changes of description.
SMM/DTT sometimes motivates a vacuum normalization or a finite spectral scale. Such constructions can remove an offset from normalized response ratios without removing it from gravity. An additive constant cancels from many nongravitational probabilities, but its metric variation can still matter. This is a valuable distinction for the source programme: a genuine cosmological result needs both a rule for the effective stress-energy and a principle fixing the remaining constant or boundary data. [3] [2]
The Single Monad Model begins with one nonspatial generative source. The Duality of Time Theory distinguishes the source’s inner production from the outer order in which completed records become accessible. Its six inner levels are nested functional roles of one process: a higher role organizes lower-level work. The seventh is the completion or observation interface. They are neither six independent clocks nor six additional time coordinates.
This distinction supplies a useful research question: which features of an observed world can follow from the way a source produces, retains and releases information? A concrete answer needs a state space, an autonomous update, retained memory and a rule connecting completion to an accessible measurement. In the constructions discussed here, those mathematical ingredients are stated explicitly. A successful finite example establishes what its specified mechanism can do; further arguments connect it to physical particles, spacetime or universal laws. [1]
Unimodular formulations reorganize the gravitational equations so that the cosmological constant can arise as an integration constant rather than as a conventional fixed coupling in the action. In a common classical presentation, the metric equation is trace-free. With covariant conservation of matter, integration restores an Einstein equation with a constant term. Different covariant and constrained formulations can differ in their quantization and treatment of global variables.
This is relevant to SMM/DTT because a completion or normalized-response rule may remove sensitivity to an additive offset in a particular observable. But mathematical insensitivity to a constant and prediction of the constant’s measured value are different results. Unimodular gravity does not automatically select that value or explain every radiative contribution. A DTT link would need a dynamical reason that its generated geometry obeys the trace-free equation or its covariant equivalent, together with a rule fixing the global integration data. Calling the source vacuum offset unobservable in a local response is insufficient to establish its gravitational absence. [2]
Unimodular gravity is the closest comparator for an offset-insensitive gravitational construction because its local trace-free equation cancels stress proportional to the metric. With conserved matter, however, integrating the equations restores an undetermined constant. DTT’s source-based normalization might reproduce the cancellation, but reproducing that local feature does not determine the global integration datum.
This distinction gives a concrete target for a stronger source model. Its completion rule could, in principle, constrain a total volume, an initial condition or a global source charge that selects the effective constant. The constraint would have to be derived and shown compatible with the local equations. It cannot simply restate the observed Λ as the chosen completion condition. Different unimodular formulations also differ in their treatment of quantum variables, so a claim of equivalence should specify which formulation is meant. The comparison’s value is therefore precise: it turns a broad vacuum-cancellation intuition into two separate questions, local insensitivity and global selection. DTT must establish both to claim a complete explanation of the cosmological value. [2] [3]
In units c=ℏ=1, take a spatially homogeneous vacuum stress Tμν=−u gμν. Einstein’s equation Gμν+Λbare gμν=8πG Tμν becomes Gμν+(Λbare+8πG u)gμν=0. Thus the effective constant is Λeff=Λbare+8πG u. A shift u↦u+C can be compensated by Λbare↦Λbare−8πG C; observable curvature depends on their sum.
Meanwhile, for a finite quantum system H↦H+C I changes U(t) only by the common phase e^{−iCt}, which cancels from ordinary normalized outcome probabilities. These two statements are compatible because gravity responds to the action’s metric dependence, not merely to relative phases in a fixed background. A DTT derivation that proves phase or response invariance under an offset has established the second statement. To solve the first problem it must explain the gravitational coupling, the selection of Λeff and its stability under contributions from the fields in the model. [3] [2]
Natural units are used only in this derivation. In SI, an energy density u contributes 8πG u/c⁴ to Λeff.
The constructive target is a mechanism that controls the gravitating combination, not merely a convention for setting a local ground-state energy to zero. Such a mechanism might involve a symmetry, a global constraint or dynamical adjustment, but each option needs a full action or equivalent conserved equations. A source-based explanation becomes stronger when it identifies the remaining free constant explicitly and shows why changing a regulator or adding a massive field does not require retuning the observed result. THE SAME QUESTION, DIFFERENT STARTING POINTS
| Question | SMM/DTT | unimodular gravity |
|---|---|---|
| Starting structure | One nonspatial source, retained memory and six nested inner functions with an outer completion interface. | Trace-free or covariant constrained gravitational formulation. |
| Observable connection | The source update and readout must generate the measured records and their calibrated relations. | Local metric equations plus global integration data. |
| Cosmological constant and vacuum offset | This distinction gives a concrete target for a stronger source model. | Unimodular gravity is the closest comparator for an offset-insensitive gravitational construction because its local trace-free equation cancels stress proportional to the metric. |
| Status of the claim | A constructive research programme; a specified finite model establishes only its stated conditional results. | A family of formulations; local offset cancellation does not select the constant. |
