Cosmological constant and vacuum offset: SMM/DTT and ΛCDM cosmology

Removing a common energy offset from normalized probabilities does not yet determine its gravitational effect. Comparing DTT with ΛCDM cosmology, this article derives the effective cosmological-constant combination, identifies the finite parameter that remains free, and shows what a source mechanism would need to fix for a stable physical explanation.

01The question behind this comparison

The cosmological constant enters the gravitational field equation as a term proportional to the metric. A Lorentz-invariant vacuum stress has the same tensor form, so observations constrain an effective combination rather than separately revealing every bare contribution. The theoretical problem is to explain a small, stable effective value despite the available microscopic scales and changes of description.

SMM/DTT sometimes motivates a vacuum normalization or a finite spectral scale. Such constructions can remove an offset from normalized response ratios without removing it from gravity. An additive constant cancels from many nongravitational probabilities, but its metric variation can still matter. This is a valuable distinction for the source programme: a genuine cosmological result needs both a rule for the effective stress-energy and a principle fixing the remaining constant or boundary data. [3] [4]

02The SMM/DTT starting point

The Single Monad Model begins with one nonspatial generative source. The Duality of Time Theory distinguishes the source’s inner production from the outer order in which completed records become accessible. Its six inner levels are nested functional roles of one process: a higher role organizes lower-level work. The seventh is the completion or observation interface. They are neither six independent clocks nor six additional time coordinates.

This distinction supplies a useful research question: which features of an observed world can follow from the way a source produces, retains and releases information? A concrete answer needs a state space, an autonomous update, retained memory and a rule connecting completion to an accessible measurement. In the constructions discussed here, those mathematical ingredients are stated explicitly. A successful finite example establishes what its specified mechanism can do; further arguments connect it to physical particles, spacetime or universal laws. [1]

Three distinct questions about the vacuum
Three distinct questions about the vacuum. A quantum state, its measurable correlations, and its gravitational stress are different objects. A proposed generative source needs an explicit map to each. View full size ↗

03How the comparator works

ΛCDM is a quantitative cosmological model combining a cosmological constant, cold dark matter, ordinary matter, radiation and specified primordial perturbations. Its parameters are inferred jointly from observations through dynamical evolution and transfer functions. A successful fit to cosmic expansion and structure does not by itself identify the microscopic nature of dark matter or explain the small observed vacuum energy. The Planck 2018 analysis is used here as a named, dated benchmark for the model’s predictive organization.

DTT can be an underlying proposal for why such an effective cosmology arises, or it can become an alternative cosmology if it changes the equations or initial conditions. Those are different tasks. To make the second claim, a source model needs distances, redshifts, physical clocks and perturbation observables calculated from one consistent solution. Matching a single constant or a qualitative picture of continual creation cannot replace the simultaneous constraints on expansion, lensing and structure. Conversely, reproducing ΛCDM as a limit could be a useful result even before a distinct observational correction is established. [2]

04The decisive comparison

ΛCDM treats the effective cosmological constant as a parameter whose consequences are constrained by expansion and structure data. It does not claim to derive the cancellation among microscopic vacuum contributions. SMM/DTT seeks to supply precisely that missing explanation, so the two frameworks need not compete at the level of background phenomenology. A successful source mechanism could reproduce the same effective constant while explaining why its value is stable.

The comparison becomes sharper when one asks what is predicted before cosmological fitting. A source radius, density normalization or completion rate selected to reproduce Λeff is an input calibration. To add explanatory content, the model must fix that parameter independently or relate it to another measured quantity with no extra adjustment. The worked offset equation makes the degeneracy visible: cosmology observes the sum, not its proposed decomposition. DTT’s positive task is to remove that degeneracy through a dynamical principle. Until then, an ideal vacuum label or a finite response ratio is valuable mathematical structure but cannot be identified with the measured cosmological constant solely by numerical analogy. [2] [3] [4]

05Worked benchmark

In units c=ℏ=1, take a spatially homogeneous vacuum stress Tμν=−u gμν. Einstein’s equation Gμν+Λbare gμν=8πG Tμν becomes Gμν+(Λbare+8πG u)gμν=0. Thus the effective constant is Λeff=Λbare+8πG u. A shift u↦u+C can be compensated by Λbare↦Λbare−8πG C; observable curvature depends on their sum.

Meanwhile, for a finite quantum system H↦H+C I changes U(t) only by the common phase e^{−iCt}, which cancels from ordinary normalized outcome probabilities. These two statements are compatible because gravity responds to the action’s metric dependence, not merely to relative phases in a fixed background. A DTT derivation that proves phase or response invariance under an offset has established the second statement. To solve the first problem it must explain the gravitational coupling, the selection of Λeff and its stability under contributions from the fields in the model. [3] [4]

Λeff=Λbare+8πG u; e^{−it(H+CI)}=e^{−iCt}e^{−itH}

Natural units are used only in this derivation. In SI, an energy density u contributes 8πG u/c⁴ to Λeff.

06What follows for the source programme

The constructive target is a mechanism that controls the gravitating combination, not merely a convention for setting a local ground-state energy to zero. Such a mechanism might involve a symmetry, a global constraint or dynamical adjustment, but each option needs a full action or equivalent conserved equations. A source-based explanation becomes stronger when it identifies the remaining free constant explicitly and shows why changing a regulator or adding a massive field does not require retuning the observed result.
